HDB_DBCC_BCCAT

Data Description

The HDB_DBCC_BCCAT event is used in SAP to show HANA DB backups.

The event is enhanced in version 7.03 with features to get Backup Catalog(Log Backup) as well. This feature is not enabled OOO, instead the event configuration parameter ‘GET_LOG’ needs to be set to 'X” to get the Log Backup.

Potential Use Cases

This event could be used in the following scenarios:

• Alert on failed HANA DB backups.

• View HANA DB backup status over time.

• Identify long-running HANA DB backups.

• View HANA Log Backup status over time.

Metric Configuration

In Version 7.03, a new ‘Parameter Key' GET_LOG is added in the configuration to extract ‘Log Backup' data based on the configuration setting. Extraction ‘Log Backup’ data can be activated/deactivated using the Metric Configuration. To do this, log into the managed system and execute the /n/BNWVS/MAIN transaction. Then, go to Administrator → Setup Metric → Metric Configuration. Set the parameter ‘GET_LOG’ value to 'X’ to extract the 'Backup Log’ data.

Splunk Event

The event will look like this in Splunk:

From 7.03, EVENT_TYPE_NAME value will be set with text ‘log backup’ for Log Backup data

SAP Navigation

Execute the dbacockpit transaction in the SAP system. Open the Diagnostics folder, and double-click on the Backup Catalog option. The data displayed on the right side of the screen will match the data that is extracted and sent to Splunk.

Click on ‘Log Backup’ tab of the above screen to see Log Backup list.
