KB 2 (ABAP): Table BNWVS MTR is Growing Rapidly

Description

Table /BNWVS/MTR is growing continuously and getting very large.

Cause

This table contains the metric data to be collected by SAP PowerConnectand is purged according to the retention setting. If it is not sent it is held until the end of the retention period.

Resolution

Modify the retention settings based on the desired retention period.

Unsent Data

Unsent data is retained until the UNSENT retention period expires then it is deleted even if it is not sent, this ensure that the table can never grow too large. This can be set in the SAP PowerConnect Control Panel -> Administrator -> Global Configuration. Via the ARCHIVE_DAYS_TO_RETAIN_UNSENT setting. This controls the minimum retention for UNSENT metrics. The value is in days.

Sent Data

Sent data is retained until the end of the Days to retain setting.

This can be set in the SAP PowerConnect Control Panel -> Administrator -> Global Configuration via the ARCHIVE_DAYS_TO_RETAIN setting. This controls the minimum retention for SENT metrics. The value is in days.
